Talented Writers from the Middle Grades...
Haikus from California
These Haikus were done by fifth grade students from Sierra Avenue School in
Oroville, CA. They were done on two computers: an LC475 and a power Mac 7100 AV
machine. The stills were shot with a 8mm camcorder and imported into an art program
called "Color It." All work was done by the students. Each picture bears the name of
the student who did the work.

Haikus from North Carolina
At Ligon Middle School, Mrs. Kang's social studies classes wrote and
illustrated their own haikus on the computers. Haikus are a form of poetry which
originated in Japan. They have been used there for centuries and made their way to
countries all over the world. These special poems are consisted of three lines: the
first line having five syllables, the second having seven syllables, and the third
having five syllables. Often haikus are about things in nature, like plants and
animals. But more recent forms of haikus are about anything the poet wants to write
about. We hope you enjoy these haikus!
